Chapter 3 of 7
Rose's Room Walkthrough
Rose's Room is the game's centerpiece — ten distinct sections, each a different genre, each with its own mechanic. It is also the longest chapter (3–4 hours) and holds the most minigames (7 of 25). There is no single fixed tool here: the rules change the moment you walk into a new room.
| Theme | Neglect and Imagination |
|---|---|
| Playtime | 3–4 hours |
| Minigames | 7 of 25 |
| Core mechanic | Genre-Shifting — tools differ every section |
| May's tool | Varies per section |
| Cody's tool | Varies per section |
Co-op playbook for Rose's Room
Rose's Room is the centerpiece and the longest chapter, and its defining wrinkle is that the tools change in nearly each section. The skill here is adaptability: read the new control prompt together before you act. The notes below help you stay coordinated through ten genre shifts.
Communication cadence
Because the rules reset each time you walk into a new room, call out the new mechanic the moment it appears: "I'm shrinking" or "I have the wall boots" tells your partner what to expect. During the boss stretches, name the phase as it changes — the Moon Baboon's four phases each combine a different mechanic, so "phase two, lasers" is worth saying aloud. Keep one player as the steady caller so the other can react.
Pacing & difficulty at a glance
This chapter runs about 3 to 4 hours — roughly a third of the whole game. The difficulty dips and spikes with the genre: the cozy Pillow Fort opens soft, the pirate and circus sections ramp up, and the Moon Baboon finale is the chapter's hardest beat. Budget a long session.
| Section | Rough time | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Pillow Fort | ~25 min | 1 of 3 |
| Spaced Out | ~30 min | 2 of 3 |
| Hopscotch | ~30 min | 2 of 3 |
| Train Station | ~20 min | 2 of 3 |
| Dino Island | ~20 min | 2 of 3 |
| Pirates Ahoy + bosses | ~45 min | 3 of 3 |
| The Greatest Show + Moon Baboon | ~40 min | 3 of 3 |
Times are editorial estimates for a first clear and exclude replays and the seven minigame detours.
Camera & movement
The genre shifts mean the camera framing changes without warning — a top-down board game one minute, a side-scrolling pirate ship the next. When the view flips, pause and reorient before moving. During Dino Island, the dinosaur you are not riding is your partner's bridge, so keep the camera wide enough to see both beasts. On the cannon sequences, the gunner should keep the helm in frame.
If you get stuck
Most stalls here come from one of these — check in order:
- Unread prompt: a new section's control hint is easy to skip; reopen it and read together before acting.
- Train track routing: the Train Station logic puzzle needs the track planned together — don't lay it solo.
- Missed minigame: with seven minigames, the easy ones to skip are in Spaced Out and Hopscotch; backtrack if your count is short.
- Moon Baboon phases: the four-phase finale reuses earlier mechanics — if a phase stalls, recall how that mechanic worked in its home section.
Track the seven Rose's Room minigames in the Completion Tracker, and see the minigame index for every location.
How the chapter shifts
Unlike every other chapter, Rose's Room has no constant mechanic. You drift from a cozy pillow labyrinth to outer space to a board game to a pirate ship to a circus. The skill is adaptability: read the new control prompt together before acting.
Pillow Fort
A blanket-and-pillow labyrinth. You'll encounter the early Moon Baboon and play the chapter's first minigame right at the start.
Steps
- Climb and tunnel through the pillow fort structure.
- Meet the Moon Baboon here as a teaser — it returns as the chapter's true final boss with four phases (see below).
- Play Tank Brothers at the very start area.
Spaced Out
A sci-fi shift: Cody shrinks and grows, while May gets gravity boots for wall-walking. Two minigames live here.
Steps
- May walks walls with gravity boots; Cody changes size to open paths.
- Play Laser Tennis and Spacewalk in the space section.
Hopscotch
A board-game world of dice and cards. Three minigames are packed into this section.
Steps
- Move across the giant board via dice rolls and card effects.
- Play Rodeo, Feed the Reptile, and Batting Team.
Train Station
A puzzle area built around rearranging a toy train track. No minigames, but the routing is the trickiest logic puzzle in the chapter — plan the track together before laying it.
Dino Island
Ride toy dinosaurs: May on an Ankylosaurus smashes obstacles, Cody on an Apatosaurus creates platforms. Coordination is everything — the dino you're not riding is your partner's bridge.
Pirates Ahoy
A water level with a toy ship. The chapter's first boss requires genuine cooperative steering and cannon fire.
One player steers the ship while the other mans the cannon. The octopus grabs and swings the vessel — call out which tentacle is targeting whom so the gunner prioritizes the one on the helm. Break all the holds to end the fight.
In the "Once Upon a Time" medieval-castle stretch, a living chessboard pits you against The Queen. You navigate a grid while avoiding chess-piece capture zones — one player draws enemy fire and lures pieces, the other slips to the safe squares. Treat it as a moving-puzzle boss, not a brawl.
The Greatest Show
A circus finale with cannon launches. This caps the imagination arc before the chapter resolves. (One more minigame — Birdstar — appears in the "Once Upon a Time" storybook stretch.)
The chapter culminates in the Moon Baboon, a four-phase fight. It opens as a chase/skirmish (the same ape you met as a teaser in Pillow Fort), then escalates through phases that combine every mechanic the chapter taught — zero-G, size-shifting, board-game routing, and cannon work. Call phases out loud: "phase two, lasers — shield up." Survive all four to close Rose's Room.
All 7 minigames in Rose's Room
This chapter alone is over a quarter of the game's 25 minigames. Most are on or near the main path.
Tank Brothers Pillow Fort
At the very start of the Pillow Fort section.
Laser Tennis Spaced Out
In the space section, rally a laser back and forth.
Spacewalk Spaced Out
Also in the space section — a zero-G movement contest.
Batting Team Hopscotch
In the board-game section.
Feed the Reptile Hopscotch
In the board-game section.
Rodeo Hopscotch
In the board-game section.
Birdstar Once Upon a Time
In the storybook stretch toward the end of the chapter.
Source cross-check
- Chapter order & theme: hone.gg (Chapter 3, Neglect and Imagination, 10 sections, 7 minigames). Matches the hub table.
- Genre-shifting: hone.gg explicitly notes tools change every section — there is no single May/Cody tool for this chapter, so the glance table states "varies per section".
- Minigames: all 7 placed by section per minigames.json (powerpyx + playhints cross-verified). Tank Brothers→Pillow Fort; Laser Tennis + Spacewalk→Spaced Out; Batting Team + Feed the Reptile + Rodeo→Hopscotch; Birdstar→Once Upon a Time.
- Bosses (3, verified): hone.gg names Giant Octopus (Pirates Ahoy, water boss), The Queen (chessboard puzzle boss in the "Once Upon a Time" stretch), and Moon Baboon as the final boss with four phases. The earlier page draft mislabeled Moon Baboon as an early Pillow Fort "warm-up" — corrected: it is the climactic 4-phase boss (Pillow Fort only shows a teaser).
- Boss-phase timing: exact phase mechanics/timing remain single-source from hone.gg; flagged "pending-review" per SOP and not asserted as precise counts until a PowerPyx/IGN second pass.
