Frequently Asked Questions
The questions players ask most before buying or starting It Takes Two, with short, sourced answers. For setup steps see the co-op page; for the platform list see platforms.
Can you play It Takes Two solo / single-player?
No. The game has no single-player mode and no AI partner. It requires two human players — either local couch co-op or online co-op. This is the core design, not a missing feature.
How does the Friend's Pass work?
Only one player buys the full game. The second player downloads the Friend's Pass for free and receives an invite in-game. Both then play the complete campaign together online. The free player is not locked to a trial section. Details on the co-op page.
Is there cross-play?
Yes for online co-op. A console player and a PC player can share a session. Local co-op shares one device, so cross-play does not apply there.
How long is the game?
A full story run is roughly 12–15 hours for most pairs, longer if you hunt every one of the 25 minigames. The longest single chapter (Rose's Room) alone can take 3–4 hours. See the chapter hub for per-chapter breakdowns.
What platforms is it on?
PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One / Series X|S, and PC (Steam and EA app). Full list and source on the platforms page.
Is there split-screen / local co-op?
Yes. Couch co-op (two controllers, one screen) is fully supported on every platform. It is the default way the game is meant to be played.
Are the 25 minigames required?
They are optional side activities with no story gate, but finding all 25 is a trophy/achievement. Use the minigame index and the Completion Tracker to mop them up.
How many boss fights?
The game has 11 boss battles across its seven chapters. Two chapters (Snow Globe and The Attic) are spectacle-driven and have no traditional boss. See the boss index.
Can I play with someone on a different platform saves?
Co-op sessions are cross-platform, but confirm the current store listing for any account or save-transfer specifics on your platform. We keep strategy content platform-neutral so it applies everywhere.
